The sky is the limit
This outlook, always casting an eye ahead, has been built into the very culture of our group as our founder has driven us to consider how the company will look and perform far into the future.
The group’s management has been tasked with preparing the company to celebrate its centenary in 2084, at which time the company must be cash positive, profitable and remain relevant to the society in which it works.
Preparing for this is embedded in the way we carry out or day-to-day operations. It is also built into the ownership and constitution structure of the business, compelling us to look beyond the immediate issues we face and always consider the future.
A primary consideration is where our talent will come from. In each of our businesses an in house training academy ensures that talent development is a continuous process and part of the culture of the organisation.
As we consider what businesses we may be in, we explore sunrise opportunities, looking for the sectors that will have a global impact over the decades to come. To this end we have a team of experts investigating the potential of the digital revolution on our future operations, something already seen in action with our offshore drilling business and its cyber rigs.
We will continue to search for innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing business challenges. We will engage with incubators to find talent and ideas in which to invest and we will continue to talk with technology start-ups to find new and innovative ways to enhance our business.
We benefit greatly from being sector agnostic and are always ready to consider any new opportunity that offers potential for the development of a sustainable long-term business, one that will help us reach our centenary celebrations in 2084.

As we prepare for the future we must ask ourselves what impact we are having, how we are affecting the communities where we work and the society of which we are a part? This kind of thinking is ingrained within our organisation and guides the decisions we make, decisions that will influence not only our future, but the future of the organisation and the communities where we work.
Through careful consideration of each opportunity and by always working to give our team the best opportunities we hope this family business can be sustained and have an impact for many generations to come.
